We will be introducing a program to help support young adults with disabilities. This program will focus on social communication, cooperation, problem solving, following unfamiliar routines and teaching and cultivating marketable job skills to earn, save and manage money.

Rooted Outdoor Education is pleased to offer our Independent Roots enrichment program for young adults with disabilities, ages 17-25. The purpose of this program is to continue to support young adults with disabilities who are ending their high school experience and young adults who are past high school looking to strengthen social communication and have the ability to gain new skills with the goal to earn money and gain relevant job skills. The program will run two days a week on Tuesday and Thursdays. If there are special circumstances that won't allow for those days, please reach out to discuss other options.

Program 
Options

  • Gardening - starting seeds, caring for seedlings, growing food, harvesting food, learning about water conservation and soil improvement, composting

  • Farm Animal Care - collecting eggs, learning to care for chickens, learning to care for goats, milking goats, and honey collection (future program) 

  • Selling products collected or made at the farmers market and in our online shop. The goal is to have the students earn money, save money and manage money. 

  • Other hobby activities that have earning potential, such as baking, making keychains/cup cozies,  making catnip toys, and making decorative signs with laser technology and 3d printing!
